A woman in Pennsylvania freaked out after she learned that her mother, inadvertently, had donated her winter clothes. Frantically, both women rushed to their local Goodwill to find out that they were already on display. And while they were able to get them back, it was not without a proper argument.
The donated clothes hunt was shared on TikTok by Abby, also known as uhh…ab. She regularly posts lifestyle content along with her friends in what she labeled a spam account. The clip attached above, though, became her biggest one yet, garnering 2.9 million views, 340,800 likes, and more than 1,100 comments.
The video showed the Pennsylvania woman arriving at the aforementioned Goodwill along with her mother, who had donated her winter clothes by mistake. Abby went through entire clothing racks, finding a bunch of her clothes that had been recently hung.
“This is mine, this is mine, this is mine… This is also mine,” the woman said, before placing all of her clothes in a shopping cart.
A Mistake Happened
In a follow-up storytime, Abby provided much-needed context. According to her, this whole impromptu adventure started when she came across her prom dress resting on the back of her couch. Caught off-guard, Abby asked her mother about it. She said she had placed it there because she feared her daughter was getting rid of it.
Confused at first, the Pennsylvania daughter then realized what had occurred. Her mother mistook some clothes bins that were supposed to go in the attic for donations.
“I left them in the hallway by the Goodwill bins because I needed help carrying it up in the attic, because there’s so much in there,” she said.
According to Abby, her mother was “sick” of seeing all the bins in the hallway and didn’t wait for her to deliver them to Goodwill herself. As a result, it appears that some of Abby’s clothes were bought before she arrived at the store.
After unsuccessfully trying to contact the store to have them hold her clothes, the woman arrived at the Goodwill as described above. Fortunately, the store allowed Abby to take the clothes that she did find. Still, the way back to the car was tense.
“You’re lucky they let me take my stuff,” Abby told her mother before they traded, “No, you’re lucky” at each other. The daughter added, “You were paying for them all. […] All the ones I said were for the Goodwill were in garbage bags. You should have known that.”
Reactions Online Frustrated on Her Behalf
The video sparked many responses, with viewers finding themselves annoyed over the mistake. One said, “I would actually be so mad.” Another one commented, “I’m gonna hold your hand when I tell you this… She knew.”
Others were upset after hearing the Pennsylvania mom’s reaction to being called out. One commented, “Why is she mad at you?” Another one added, “Can’t mom just say sorry… Mistakes happen.”
In the end, Abby was not mad at her mother. She did tell her they needed to wash the clothes. According to her, the clothes touched the “Goodwill air.”
