Pennsylvania Woman Shocked When Workers Dig Up Her Street For Another States Data Center: ‘We as a Country Are in So Much Trouble!’

We’ll likely see a lot more of this

All over the U.S., AI data centers are being constructed and citizens have a lot to say about it. A Pennsylvania woman was appalled when she found workers outside her home running lines. Curious, she asked them what they were doing, only to find out they were for a data center. But she was especially shocked when she discovered where they’re putting the center.

kind of wild to me that they are digging up the street in front of my house to put in powerlines to power the data centers being built all the way over in New Jersey! I live in Pennsylvania I’m not that far out of New Jersey. I’m probably like 20 minutes from Ewing, Trenton, Lawrenceville, etc. but still they have to run the lines all the way out here for that? It’s insane the amount of power that those buildings are going to be needing. I don’t like it not one bit… did they have any meeting I wonder? Did I just not know about this? Did people vote on it? So many questions… #datacenters #power #electricity aidatacenters

Amanda (@mandamarie06) said that a gas company was in her neighborhood marking off gas lines in her front yard. She thought that was strange. Then, this past week, she found surveyors outside on her front lawn. She asked them what they were doing with the gas lines. One worker told her they’re running lines to “power the data center” that they’re building. She asked them, “Where are they building the data center?” Amanda says the workers told her all the way in New Jersey, despite the fact that she lives in Pennsylvania!

Amanda was surprised by this news and told the workers that New Jersey is at least 20 minutes away. They said they’re running lines in all the nearby Pennsylvania towns. Amanda said, “It’s insane the amount of power that those buildings are going to be needing.” She asks her audience, “Did they have any meeting? Did people vote on it?” Her and many others share the sentiment that they don’t like the idea of nearby data centers and what it could mean for their cities.

Commenters flocked to Amanda’s post, primarily to share opinions about looming AI and the introduction of so many data centers across the country. One commenter stated, “We as a country are in so much trouble!” Another commenter mentioned, “Got money to get all that installed but not enough to properly fix the roads and bridges.” Many others shared, “Gonna increase everyone’s power bill” and their worries concerning price increases for all.

Commenters continue to share their thoughts on this video, many of which are divisive. One commenter explained, “And everyone here is NJ is complaining about our utility’s bills, not realizing we are funding the data center’s power. It’s sickening. I’m in an apartment paying $200-$400 monthly.”
