We all know Alfred Pennyworth. The lovable, sarcastic and somehow stoic fatherly figure of Bruce Wayne. Also, his butler but Alfred is so much more than that. Alfred cares deeply for the Wayne family and shows it in his pestering as well as his tinkering in Bruce Wayne and Batman’s affairs. All the love in the world to give and no one ever asked where he comes from or why he is a butler. After 80 years of pop culture involvement, Alfred Pennyworth has earned his own story.
The new tv series looks to shoot later on this year and will start with ten episodes. The show will display Alfred as a child and show the path that led him to a life of servitude in America. It is no mystery that Alfred Pennyworth is British and grew up in England. What was unknown is what happened to him as a child. Clearly, with Alfred and his brother both being butlers they ascertained an education somewhere. But Alfred holds himself to a standard of excellence some may consider being unnatural.
Facing the world as if he had no choice other than to obey every command. Pain and love guide Alfreds every action and every word he speaks. Clearly that Alfred had it rough, and with the trailer of the new series, all inferences confirmed. Gratitude to the kindness shown to him makes him crave it more. Even two gentlemen discuss Pennyworths’ future, as a boy, state that’s all the boy wants. The kindness of his masters.
We look forward to seeing how Alfred became the wise and loving butler we know him to be in Batman. The new show is to premiere in the latter half of 2019. Details and updates to follow.
