After years of waiting, Persona 5 finally has a release date in the west. The hotly anticipated JRPG will release in North America on February 14th, 2017.
The game will release on both PS4 and PS3. The two versions will cost $59.99 and $49.99 respectively. A collectors edition labeled the “Take Your Heart Edition” will be available exclusively for PS4. It will sell for $89.99 and will include a SteelBook case for the game, a plush of the game’s feline companion, Morgana, an art book, a school bag modeled after the one in-game, a soundtrack and a collectible box.
The SteelBook will also be available for those who preorder the PS4 version of the game. And for those who can’t wait to try out the latest entry in the franchise, Persona 5 will be playable at E3, where Atlus will also be giving away Morgana hats to those lucky enough to snag one while supplies last.
Persona 5 was originally announced in late 2013 for Playstation 3 before making the jump to Sony’s next generation platform. Like previous entries in the series, Persona 5 will follow a group of high schoolers in Japan as they gain control over supernatural beings known as Personas. But the fifth entry in the long-running series still has a few tricks up its sleeves. The protagonists of persona 5 are not just simple high school students, but also a group of supernatural burglars. Gameplay highlights a mix of stealth and the series’ trademark turn based combat.

The last Persona game, Persona 4, was released in 2008 for PS2, before being remastered as Persona 4 Golden for the PS Vita. Persona 4 has seen numerous spin-off titles, including two fighting games and a rhythm game. We’ll have to wait and see if Persona 5 is given a similar treatment when it releases early next year.
