Indie developer Phigames has been teasing Recompile for some time now. With the launch date quickly approaching, the team is premiering a series of featurettes that highlight certain aspects of Recompile.
Recompile: Hacking Into The Mainframe
Following a partnership with publisher Dear Villagers, the first featurette for Recompile focuses on the digital wasteland of the Mainframe. Shadowed entirely in dark corners with bright hints of color, the trailer flies us through several sections of the Mainframe. Along with a haunting, atmospheric soundtrack to back up the sights, there’s plenty to glance upon with this short trailer. You can see more original videos from Phigames by visiting their YouTube page.
Recompile is essentially a third-person action platformer with Metroidvania vibes. You play as a semi-sapient program that will do anything to avoid absolute deletion. Jump, shoot, hack, and survive your way through hostile territories. As a rogue program going up against a supercomputer, only freedom is the only choice. But depending on your actions throughout Recompile, the ending might differ from what you expect. The Steam description reads as follows:
The story explores everything from machine sentience to the nature of choice.
Life and death. Chaos and determinism. Sentience and sapience. Intelligence exists in many forms. In this dying world, one must explore all possibilities. Observe and respect all perspectives. Only then, can we truly survive.”
This platforming adventure will launch on August 19, 2021, for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Recompile will be the fourth published game with development from Phigames, following up with MC-420, Nuclear Autumn, and TinyKeep. Dear Villagers (The Forgotten City, Edge Of Eternity) is handling publication for Recompile.
