Japan is a country like no other, and one that’s brought us many weird and wonderful things. They’ve given us the PlayStation, they’ve given us Sushi, and they’ve given us Pikotaro. Cast your mind back a few years, and the name Pikotaro will either envoke feelings of joy or rage. In case you had forgotten, the singer/comedian was the mastermind behind the catchy PPAP (Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen) song that went viral in 2016. A song of such madness that saw people either loving it or hating it, with a passion.
I won’t tell you what side of the fence I was on, but I will say that I scored a 100% rating for the song on Taiko No Tatsujin in Japan, because I’m cool. Fast forward to 2020, and Pikotaro is back to cheer us all up or make us cry in frustration at our phone/computer screens. This time, he’s not alone, as Pikachu has decided to join in for a new music video. Brace yourselves, and take a look:
Utter madness and, I’m not even sorry. If you’re trying to make sense of it all, the video does come with an English description:
“A dream collaboration with the world famous Pikachu! We wanted to make something special that will make everyone smile, and have fun at home as people worldwide are staying home this summer. There are obvious gaps in the conversation between Pikachu and Pikotaro, but you’ll definitely see them having a good time interacting with each other! Let’s sing and dance with Pikachu and Pikotaro.”
The song was revealed during the Pokemon virtual fest summer stage event and featured a digital version of Pikotaro. Should you be interested, you can see that here. I don’t know what else to say. I’d like to discuss the song in more detail with you, but I’m speechless, and it’s definitely something that needs to be experienced to be believed. Let us know your thoughts on the song in the comments. Are you glad Pikotaro is back or has this just made 2020 even worse?
