PlayStation players officially have a limited time to play Gran Turismo Sport before it’s gone for good. Earlier today, Gran Turismo announced that they would be ending the game’s online support on January 31st, 2024. While the offline portions of the game will still be available beyond that, players will no longer be able to download custom liveries, access any of the multiplayer options, or purchase Add-Ons from the PlayStation store. This end-of-service announcement is part of Gran Turismo’s efforts to shift its focus to online support for Gran Turismo 7, the franchise’s newest title.

For longtime fans of the Gran Turismo games, the news of the online shutdown probably isn’t shocking, since the game’s been out since 2017 and the series has a noted habit of prioritizing its newest games. Still, expected or not, the end of online services for Gran Turismo Sport will drastically reduce the game’s features by removing online services like the Community, Open Lobby, and Sport Mode as well as custom liveries for cars, outfits, and helmets. Any items with liveries applied will return to their original color but remain in the player’s possession.

In addition, as of December 1st, 2023, Add-Ons for Gran Turismo Sport will no longer be available on the PlayStation store. Gran Turismo has assured fans that Add-Ons purchased before the end-of-service date will still be available, along with all of the existing cars and car settings in a player’s garage and all of the game’s world circuits. Gameplay progression will not be affected by the online shutdown, though certain trophies that require an online connection will no longer be available.

We would like to thank the many users of the Gran Turismo Sport online service since its first launch in 2017. From here on, we will continue to further improve the online services for the currently available title “Gran Turismo 7” on PlayStation®4 and PlayStation®5.

Gran Turismo

The online features of Gran Turismo Sport will be available until 06:00 UTC on Jaunary 31st, 2024. Add-Ons will be available through the PlayStation store until December 1st, 2023.

Gran Turismo Sport is exclusively available on the PlayStation 4.
