The last time The Nerd Stash covered PlayStation Neo news, it was amid the console’s spec leaks, and it was to say that Neo is possibly one of the worst kept secrets in the gaming industry this year. Now, Gameblog, a popular French gaming news website, is all but confirming this. They have reported new rumors concerning the PlayStation 4 Slim and PlayStation Neo, stating that they will be unveiled at a special PlayStation event in New York City on September 7, 2016.
Sony has not yet confirmed or denied such an upcoming event, so take this information lightly. But not too lightly. Gameblog has, after all, proven to be a credible source when it comes to leaked information. Just recently, they reported that we would be seeing Resident Evil VII at Sony’s E3 conference back in June, and announced that the title would be playable on PlayStation VR. Both predictions, as we know, turned out to be true.
Speaking of Sony’s E3 conference, their show came and went without a single mention of PlayStation Neo or the PS4 Slim. The absence was especially noticeable, considering Microsoft showed off the Xbox One Slim, and even teased a new and powerful console, code-named Project Scorpio. It was not a total loss, of course, as Sony hammered out game after game during their relatively short conference. After that, many fans assumed we would see more of the Neo at the Tokyo Game Show this September.
While the Tokyo Game Show seems a more reasonable event to unveil the PlayStation Neo and the PS4 Slim (the event, for one, is significantly larger), there have been even more reports that the NYC event on September 7 is legitimate, as VICE Gaming has taken to confirming the rumors. Another factor that may add to the legitimacy of this NYC event is that Nintendo is expected to unveil their highly anticipated NX at Tokyo Game Show. Announcing the Neo and PS4 Slim early may be a smart move on Sony’s part, if they are looking to steal a bit of Nintendo’s fire.
Either way, the next few weeks are sure to be filled with even more Neo news, and you’ll want to stay tuned to The Nerd Stash for coverage!
