With the addition of the Special Research questline, Niantic and The Pokemon Company introduced the Mythical Pokemon Mew into Pokemon GO on March 30th, 2018. The Special Research Quests are instantly unlocked once you reach Trainer Level 15 and can be done any time you want. If you haven’t done it yet, here’s how you can complete the “A Mythical Discovery” Special Research Quest and bag yourself a Mew in Pokemon GO.

“A Mythical Discovery” Pokemon GO Quest Guide

Pokemon Go: A Mythical Discovery Quest Guide

Not to be confused with the Field Research Quests, Special Researches aren’t Daily Quests but are special, story-based quests that usually contain eight different stages of objectives. To open the Special Research menu, tap on the binocular icon and press the Special tab. Once you complete all of the “A Mythical Discovery” Special Research Quest objectives, you will obtain the Mythical Pokemon Mew.

Part 1

Task Reward
Spin 5 PokeStops or Gyms 500 XP
Catch 10 Pokemon 500 XP
Transfer 5 Pokemon 500 XP
Completion Incubator x1
Lure Module x3
Great Ball x10

Part 2

Task Reward
Earn 2 Candies while walking with a Buddy 1,000 XP
Make 10 Great Throws 1,000 XP
Hatch 3 Eggs 1,000 XP
Completion Incense x3
Great Ball x20
Stardust x2,000

Part 3

Task Reward
Reach Level 15 1,500 XP
Battle in Raids 2 times 1,500 XP
Battle in Gyms 2 times 1,500 XP
Completion Charged TM x1
Fast TM x1
Star Piece x2

Part 4

Task Reward
Earn a Silver Kanto Medal 2,000 XP
Evolve 20 Pokemon 2,000 XP
Earn 2 Candies while walking with a Buddy 2,000 XP
Completion Stardust x3
Great Ball x20
Lure Module x20

To get the Silver Kanto Medal, register 50 Kanto Pokemon (the original 150 Pokemon from Red and Green/Blue) for the Pokedex entries.

Part 5

Task Reward
Catch a Ditto 2,500 XP
Catch 10 Ghost Type Pokemon 2,500 XP
Make 20 Great Throws 2,500 XP
Completion Premium Raid Pass x1
Lucky Egg x1
Revive x15

Part 6

Task Reward
Reach Level 25 3,000 XP
Evolve a Magikarp 3,000 XP
Battle in Raids 10 times 3,000 XP
Completion Incense x3
Rare Candy x5
Stardust x6,000

After completing Part 6 of “A Mythical Discovery” Special Research Quest, you will unlock the “A Ripple in Time” Special Research that will let you catch Celebi.

Part 7

Task Reward
Use 50 Berries to help catch Pokemon 3,500 XP
Earn a Gold Kanto Medal 3,500 XP
Make an Excellent Curveball Throw 3,500 XP
Completion Mew
Ultra Ball x20
Stardust x8,000

Register 100 Kanto Pokemon for the Pokedex entries to get the Silver Kanto Medal.

Part 8

Task Reward
Catch Mew 4,000 XP
Super Incubator x1
Mew Candy x20
Stardust x10,000
