The Pokemon Go Johto celebration is but 24 hours away. During the event, trainers will have the opportunity to catch some of the Johto fan-favorite Pokemon. From Tuesday, January 26 to Sunday, January 31, Pokemon Go will be holding two special event-exclusive Field Research. The first event focuses primarily on the Johoto Celebration event; the second field research focuses on Team Rocket. The timed research tasks are meant to be a fun challenge. If you are able to complete both challenges, you may be lucky enough to find a Shiny Ho-oh. Below, we will be covering how to complete the two event timed research tasks.
Over the last few weeks, Niantic has challenged trainers with special event timed research tasks; these tasks, once completed, would reward trainers with experience, rare candies, Pokeballs, Incense, lures, and stickers. With the Pokemon Go – Kanto Tour celebration two weeks away, Niantic looks to celebrate the Johto region.
Johto Celebration Rewards Task
The first event themed research task will require trainers to catch 9 specific Pokemon; the nine Pokemon are Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile, Smeargle, Sudowoodo, Murkrow, Sunkern, Miltank, and Larvitar. If you are able to catch all 9, you will be rewarded with 15 Pokeballs, 10 Ultra Balls, 1 Incense, and an Elite Collector Medal. Finding Smergle may be a difficult task since it relies on taking pictures of your Pokemon. Trainers will also have the opportunity to catch shiny versions of select Johto Pokemon. Keep an eye out for Shiny Cyndaquil, Totadile, Chikorita, Mareep, Chinchou, Sudowoodo, and Miltank.
Team GO Rocket Task
In addition to the Johto Celebration task, trainers will have to face off against Team Rocket. The Team Go Rocket timed research tasks challenges trainers to defeat Team Rocket. The first stage of this task requires trainers to:
- catch 15 Dark-type Pokemon (Great balls)
- catch 15 Shadow Pokemon (Revives)
- Defeat a Team GO Rocket Leader 3 times. (Wild Encounter)
For completing these three tasks, you will be rewarded with 5 Great balls, 5 revives, and a Larvitar. Once all three tasks are done, you are rewarded with 15 Pokeballs, 1 Incense, and 5,000 XP. Redeeming these tasks progresses the trainer to stage 2. Stage 2 requires you to defeat Giovanni’s three generals: Arlo, Cliff, and Sierra.
Once you defeat Arlo, Cliff, and Sierra, you will be rewarded with 2 Max Revives, 3 Hyper Potions, and 2 Mega Potions. Each of these three tasks can be redeemed separately. Once done with all three, claim your Ho-oh; there is a chance for Ho-oh to be shiny. Shiny Ho-oh is Orange and Grey.
