In February 2023 of Pokémon GO, Trainers have the opportunity to catch the Shadow variant of the Legendary Iron Pokémon Registeel by participating in the latest Team GO Rocket Takeover Event, Shadowy Skirmishes. During this event, you will be able to earn an abundance of Trainer XP, useful Consumables, and guaranteed encounters with the Electric- and Normal-type Generator Pokémon, Helioptile. However, the main attraction of the Shadowy Skirmishes Research in Pokémon GO is undoubtedly the epic battle experience with the ultimate Boss of Team GO Rocket, the villainous Giovanni.

Shadowy Skirmishes Research Gameplay and Cutscenes in Pokémon GO

Completing the Shadowy Skirmishes Research in Pokémon GO involves clearing five 3-part Steps, each including its own set of challenges. Step 1 tasks you with clearing three catching-related objectives, after which Step 2 requires you to defeat Team GO Rocket Grunts and purify Shadow Pokémon. Steps 3 through 5 consist of dealing with the Team Go Rocket Leaders and Giovanni.

Based on findings by TheSilphRoad Redditor redwineandbeer, here is a list of every challenge that must be cleared for the completion of the Shadowy Skirmishes Research in Pokémon GO:

Purify 2 Shadow Pokémon. Receive 10 Pinap Berries
3 Defeat the Team Go Rocket Leader Arlo. 1,500 Trainer XP
  • 2,500 XP
  • 1,000 Stardust
  • 1 Super Rocket Radar
Defeat the Team Go Rocket Leader Cliff. 1,500 Trainer XP
Defeat the Team Go Rocket Leader Sierra. 1,500 Trainer XP
4 Find the Team Go Rocket Boss.  Receive 5 Max Potions
  • 3,000 XP
  • 1 Lucky Egg
  • 2 Golden Razz Berries
Battle the Team Go Rocket Boss.  Receive 20 Ultra Balls
Defeat the Team Go Rocket Boss.  Receive 5 Max Revives
5 Claim reward. 2,500 Trainer XP
  • 5,000 XP
  • 2,500 Stardust
  • 2 Silver Pinap Berries

Remember that Giovanni is a tough opponent; beating him will involve taking one’s best Pokémon counters to the arena. After the final showdown of Shadowy Skirmish, Shadow Registeel will be available for those who have completed all the challenges. Additionally, note that Step 5 of the Shadowy Skirmishes Research in Pokémon GO does not involve any tasks or prerequisites. All participants must do is tap the three “Claim Reward” tasks to receive their free XP.
