This article is over 2 years old and may contain outdated information.

It’s fair to say that grinding for the Ace Trainer Medal is one of the most tedious activities in Pokemon Go. To get to the Platinum, you need to beat Blanche, Candela, and/or Spark 2,000 times. Unlike most other Medals, which can be completed as you walk around, with this one, you have to dedicate time to battling the Team Leader. Fortunately, diligent Trainers over at Reddit have found a way to alleviate that problem, especially with Shadow Kyogre currently being available to be Purified.

According to Redditor Puzzleheaded_Ad_3246, fighting Giovanni and Purifying his Shadow Kyogre during the Timeless Travels Season make the key to this Ace Trainer Medal grind. The Pokemon is quite strong and has fast attack animation thanks to its Waterfall move.

Once you have caught it, head to the Battle menu and select Candela as your Training partner. Her Great League party, consisting of Combusken, Magcargo, and Flareon, is rather predictable and very weak to Water. Especially Magcargo, which is a Fire/Rock dual-typing Pokemon that takes four times extra damage from Water-Type moves!

Start the battle and keep attacking using Waterfall; don’t use any Charged Move as it has longer animation and takes more time to finish. You should be able to defeat Candela’s whole party in just 27 seconds.

Sure, it will take you 15 hours to actually clear the Pokemon Go Platinum Ace Trainer Medal, but it’s one of the best ways to do it. We’re not joking; try multiplying 2,000 x 27 and dividing the result by 60 twice. User antisa1003 also chimed in, adding that using a Shadow Sharpedo, which has a higher Attack stat, would be even faster at 25 seconds.

Compared to other Medals that have a bit of random luck attached to them, like completing Pokedexes, this one is the easiest to get. Level 40+ Trainers will need to clear this fast as they need to get a minimum number of Platinum medals to level up. Completing the first three tiers of the Ace Trainer Medal by defeating the Team Leaders 1,000 times will also unlock some customization items:

To summarize, here’s what you need to do to quickly unlock the Platinum Ace Trainer Medal in Pokemon Go:

  1. In the Battle menu, select Candela as your Training partner.
  2. Select the Great League level.
  3. Use a 1,500 CP or below Shadow Kyogre as your second or third Pokemon in your party.
    • Or bring a Shadow Sharpedo if you have one.
  4. Once the fight starts, switch to Shadow Kyogre (or Sharpedo).
  5. Keep attacking, and Shadow Kyogre will mow down Candela’s Pokemon with 5-6 fast Waterfalls each.
    • Keep in mind not to use Charge Move as the animation takes a longer time to finish.
  6. It should take you just 27 seconds to finish the battle.
