The Pokémon Company made a lot of exciting announcements during their stream early Friday. One of the most promising is an open-world Pokemon game, Pokemon Legends: Arceus, set to release early next year on the Nintendo Switch.
Right from the start, the trailer below presents player with new gameplay mechanics. The in-game trainer is presented with three starters from three different regions: Rowlet from Alola, Cyndaquil from Johto, and Oshawott from Unova. Pokemon Legends: Arceus will take place in the Sinnoh region, but this might be set in the past.
In an old-school twist, players have the ability to catch Pokemon without fighting them. The trailer shows trainers crouching in grass to sneak up on unknowing creatures. Although, be warned, battling is still a major part of the gameplay.
According to the trailer, Arceus will play a major role in this next installment of the series, but details are still unclear.
Pokemon Legends: Arceus is slated to release on the Nintendo Switch in early 2022. During the event, they also announced remakes of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl that are set to release later this year. Still need something to fill the gap? New Pokémon Snap is set to release on April 30th, 2021.
