Veteran Pokémon players remember some of the fun starters from the Sinnoh region. However, we all quickly noticed their disappearance from the beginning lineup, as we now have new starters to choose from. Even so, you can still get Turtwig in Pokémon Legends: Arceus once you find the right location to catch them early on.

(Updated on August 7, 2024 – Fact-checked and clarified the guide’s steps).

Turtwig Location

Pokémon Legends: Arceus Turtwig Location

Turtwig, the Grass-Type former starter companion, is found in a single location in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, so it’s rather straightforward where you get them. However, catching one can get a bit tough. This isn’t because of Turtwig themselves, but because of what’s around them.

But let’s start with their location. Turtwig is found in the Crimson Mirelands. It’s found on the southeast corner of the map.

One way to get there is to look toward Ursa’s Ring, and to the river right to that landmark, there’s another body of land. From there, there’s a lake near the bottom, and that’s where Turtwig is in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. You can use Braviary to cross the river. Alternatively, you can ride Wydeer and get a running jump to get mostly across. Though you’ll land in the water, you can “swim” the rest of the way.

This method happens later in the story, though. If you want to get Turtwig earlier in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, start from the upper right area of the Crimson Mirelands and circle around Lake Valor. From the east side, head south until you get to the Droning Meadow. You’ll get to Turtwig soon enough.

Turtwig is wandering around all by themselves across the way of the small lake close to a mountainside.

How to Catch Turtwig in Pokémon Legends: Arceus

Sneaking up on Turtwig is the quickest way to catch them without a fight. Dazzling Honey and a Heavy Ball are all you need to make fast work of this. However, the lead-up to this can spell trouble. Turtwig is alone, but there are plenty of Pokémon surrounding it. In fact, no matter which way you approach, you’re going to encounter an Alpha Pokémon. Besides them, there are other high-level wild critters around.
