Teasers and trailers for Shadow Mewtwo have been everywhere since the legendary Pokemon was revealed for Pokken Tournament. Recently, a new gameplay video has been released showing a match with the psychic nightmare and its special attack. Shadow Pokemon were introduced in Pokemon Colosseum and expanded upon in Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness. In Gale of Darkness, the Shadow type was super effective against all other types. It is unknown if Shadow Mewtwo is really a Shadow type or just a dark version of Mega Mewtwo X.

Seems not even Mewtwo can survive being eaten. But it does look like he defends a lot.
There are two ways to unlock Shadow Mewtwo. The first is by fulfilling certain conditions in the game. The second is with a special Shadow Mewtwo Amiibo card that comes with certain copies of the game. The card will instantly unlock the character. Information on the Pokemon’s normal unlock conditions is anywhere from sparse to non-existent for the time being. The game is coming to Wii U in spring of 2016, and copies that include the card will likely be on Amazon and Ebay for twice the price shortly after.
Finally, here’s another video demonstrating Shadow Mewtwo’s ultimate attack. In addition to nearly blowing up the entire world, the move has a lingering effect of making fans break out in Dragonball Z jokes.

At this point, they may as well make it official: Mewtwo is Frieza, and any argument to the contrary is fundamentally invalid.
Shadow Mewtwo is the latest character revealed for Pokken Tournament, and hopefully far from the last. It would be incredible to have a fighting roster rivaling the likes of Super Smash Bros Melee (and later versions). So which Pokemon would you all like to join the arena? For my own part, I say we need some ninja action. Let’s get Greninja and Zoroark in there, please.
