A New York woman faced backlash after posting a video on TikTok showing herself causing a scene at a hospital nurses’ station. The woman, who said she was hospitalized with sickle cell disease, claimed she had waited more than 20 minutes for her pain medication before deciding to confront the staff. However, netizens reacting to the clip seemed to think she had overreacted given the circumstances.
In the video, the patient walked into the nurses’ station only to find it empty of staff. She then pulled up a chair and started looking through items on a desk. “I’m gonna find the numbers to call people to come here because we’re gonna get this. They haven’t seen [expletive] yet,” she said.
Even when another individual, whose identity isn’t clear, noticed her and reminded her that she was in the nurses’ station, the woman remained adamant that she was not going to leave. “I’ve been calling and no one wanna help me. So I’m gonna help myself,” she replied, continuing to dial numbers on a phone.
The woman also threatened to have the nurse responsible for administering her medication reported in an effort to get their license revoked.
Netizens’ Reaction to the New York Woman’s Hospital Incident
On TikTok, many people defended the hospital staff and criticized the woman. Some pointed out that the alarm beeping in the background throughout the video sounded like a code blue, which typically signals a medical emergency requiring immediate attention.
“That’s a code blue alarm going off. The nurses are saving a life,” one commenter wrote. Another added, “I WISH some patients understand that they aren’t the only patient we have to take care of. If someone is coding, priorities shift.”
Someone else, who said they were a nurse, wrote, “People are so selfish and entitled like we’re not waitresses dealing your drugs to you on your schedule, we are trained professionals saving lives.”
One netizen called the woman’s behavior “very immature and unaware.” Another remarked, “Ppl are so entitled now its just crazy.”
A few, however, thought the patient did not deserve the criticism she was getting. “I kind of agree with her obviously it’s not the nurses fault but there should be a nurse for every patient or a doctor or CNA literally anybody,” one comment read. Another chimed in, “Yeah they’re busy now but why didn’t they treat her when they had the opportunity to do so? they had the time to go to her and tell her that they’re not going to provide any pain medication.”
The video does not show what happened next, and there have been no updates about the incident. Following the backlash, the woman deleted the clip, along with other posts related to what happened.
