In between the season of E3, Comic-Con, and Gamescom, exists the D23 expo.
The D23 expo is a three day event that will showcase Disney’s properties for movies, games, and more. The name is derived from the word Disney and 1923; the year that the company was founded.
Day one will kick off with the Disney Legends Awards ceremony; hosted by Disney CEO Bob Iger. According to the Star Wars blog, George Lucas will be the big honoree during the ceremony. In addition, fans will get a sneak peak at Disney Animation and Pixar’s “never-before-seen” footage for their newest projects.
On Saturday morning, the event will feature film previews from Lucasfilms and Marvel Studios (who decided to skip Comic-Con this year). There will also be some information on a possible Star Wars theme park.
Lastly, Sunday will have all the big gaming news. According to Disney, there will be “never-before-seen gameplay, trailers, new reveals, and surprises from Disney Interactive’s most anticipated games. Among the games participating in the presentation are: Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition, Star Wars: Battlefront from Electronic Arts, and Kingdom Hearts III from Square Enix.”
Disney mentions that players will be able to go “hands-on” with demos for the upcoming titles.
While the D23 expo is not in the upper echelon of pop-culture events, it will be important to fans that want more of what they saw at E3 or Comic-Con, in addition to new offerings from Disney’s properties.
The D23 expo will take place from August 14 to 16, in Anaheim California. You can get the full schedule for the event by clicking here.
