The ripple effect of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s trip to Colombia is opening them up to widespread criticism. The Sussexes recently completed a four-day tour of Colombia at the request of Vice President Francia Marquez. While the trip was seemingly an avenue to promote women’s leadership and kick against cyberbullying, the couple has done a poor job effecting that within their personal space.
The trip has especially stirred criticism on social platforms, with many throwing shade at Harry and Meghan for having no valid reason to visit Colombia. Others believe the visit was nothing but another avenue to take a jab at the royals amid their ongoing feud. Royal author, Ingrid Seward rides on this boat, claiming the duo had ulterior motives beyond the obvious brand promotion. Speaking to The Sun, the author shared,
“The trip was very carefully thought out from beginning to end. For instance, there were chosen reporters and photographers. It was all very, very tight. And so there was no chance of anything going wrong.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Reportedly Staged ‘Successful” Colombian Tour
During the tour of Colombia, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle put on a united front, making unmissable affectionate displays conveniently caught on camera. The couple packed on the PDA on most of their outings, with the most notable captured during a Salsa dance session at the Petronio Álvarez Pacific Music Festival, Cali’s largest Afro-Latino cultural event. Ingrid believes a large part of this visit captured on camera was staged to make the pair look good and feel “royal” again, a silent swipe at the royal family. She divulged,
“It does look as if it’s a dig at the royal family. Apparently, when they were there they never met the ordinary man in the street at all. They were kept miles away from anyone. The security was absolutely tremendous. So unless people had been picked to meet them, nobody even saw them or didn’t even know why they were there. The only reason they knew they were there was because all the roads were closed.”
These elements in their trip were reminiscent of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s lives with the British royals. Enjoying the same treatment on a faux-royal tour years after stepping back seemed like one loud show they hoped would irk the royals. She added,
“So from that point of view I would think it was quite a strange thing to do – just to go to a country, be completely surrounded by security and talk to really, ostensibly very few people.”
Considering these pointers, the only logical aim achieved from the tour, besides brand promotion, was sending home that message to their estranged family. This comes days after sources revealed the King’s decision to move on from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and focus on the next generations of royals. His decision, aimed at preserving his legacy would better groom Prince William’s kids, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis into better successors to fill the void the Sussexes’ exit created.
