Prince Harry has made no secret that he and the royal family are at odds and have been for some time. The Duke of Sussex has been pretty open about his family feud since leaving the firm with his wife, Meghan Markle, in 2020. However, since his royal exit, it seems that Harry has had plenty of time to think about what it means to be part of the famous family, and he has even considered changing his last name to honor his late mother, Princess Diana.
According to The Daily Mail, Prince Harry has been in contact with his uncle, Earl Spencer, the brother of his mother, Princess Diana. During a recent visit to the UK, Harry paid his uncle a rare visit and sought out advice about possibly changing his last name to Spencer as a way to break further away front he royal family as well as pay tribute to his mother.
While a name change sounds like a drastic move, it wouldn’t be totally surprising as Harry and Meghan’s feud with Prince William, Kate Middleton, and King Charles has been widely documented. Since the Sussexes stepped down from their roles as senior royals things have only gone from bad to worse between the couple and the rest of the family.
Prince Harry Considers Changing His Last Name To Spencer
Meghan and Harry have given scathing interviews that paint the monarchy in a negative light. Prince Harry himself even wrote a memoir titled Spare, where he aired the family’s dirty laundry further. So, it’s not hard to see why there is tension between the two sides.
Of course, the internet had plenty of opinions about Harry possibly changing his last name, and many weren’t nice.
“Harry and Meghan obsessing about their names and title is beyond pathetic. This is a clear portrait of people with no talent or depth. Nothing to offer except for whining that what they have isn’t enough,” one person stated.
“Changing his name to Spencer then surely [they] would lose their titles? Markle would never allow that, that would make her plain Meghan Spencer,” another said.
“Harry is an entitled, bitter, arrogant, thick MIDDLE AGED MAN!!” a third comment read.
“Every time you see Harry he has a scowl on his face-unlike the Harry of old-when he was always happy with family and friends around him. I think we all know why,” a fourth person wrote.
There is no real word on whether Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will actually go through with the name change. However, it seems to speak volumes that he would even consider the huge move to further distance himself from the royal family.
