As Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly plot their UK comeback, they have one more hit to breeze through with their Montecito home attracting ever-increasing tax bills. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex churned out a lump sum of $14.5 million in 2020 to purchase their seven-bed, 15-bathroom mansion in Montecito. It turns out that with maximum luxury comes a massive amount in maintenance costs and taxes. However, these property tax bills seem to have taken a free dive over the years with rising costs.
In 2021, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle coughed out $141,000 in tax bills for their Montecito property. By 2022, the amount increased to 144,000. Last year, the duo reportedly had to pay $146,600 in two installments as incurred tax on their luxurious California pad. While Harry and Meghan have consistently met up with the amount charged in years past, these costs have continued to increase drastically, more than the amount experts estimated the property value would attract.
This year, the Sussexes were hit with another hefty tax bill in the tune of £100,000 per The Sun. The amount is consistent with the rising cost Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have incurred since moving into their affluent Montecito neighborhood and gearing off their Hollywood career. This comes as Harry and Meghan reportedly plan their grand UK comeback. According to insiders, the 39-year-old no longer favors advice from his Hollywood publicists, opting instead to seek counsel from his former UK aides on how to stage his return from US exile. The source claimed,
“Harry is turning away from all sorts of Hollywood publicists and is seeking counsel from his old friends and associates. He is clearly reaching out thinking, ‘I need to do something different because what I’m doing is clearly not working.’ In short, he is rethinking the way he operates.”
Although the Sussexes have no intention of residing permanently in the UK, their partial return to royal life would give Harry a chance to spend more time in his home country. That could invariably help mend his relationship with his dad, King Charles. Meanwhile, Prince Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle seems unfazed by all the drama or increasing tax bills. She recently spoke at Oprah Winfrey’s book club, where she admitted to “entering a new chapter of joy.” With their Netflix deal still on track and potential for their upcoming shows, the Susexes certainly have much more to look forward to in their Hollywood journey.
