Prince William and Kate Middleton are going through a difficult time amid her cancer battle. On March 22, 2024, the Princess of Wales announced in a video she had been diagnosed with cancer. Her announcement came one month after King Charles revealed he too was also diagnosed with cancer. The Royal Family’s health issues has made Prince Harry want to reconcile with his estranged relatives. However, not everyone is ready to forgive and forget.
The rift between Prince Harry and his family began when he married Meghan Markle. Tabloids reported there was a feud between Harry and Meghan, and Prince William and Kate Middleton. After Harry and Meghan stepped away from their royal duties in 2020, the couple’s been vocal about what went on behind palace doors.
In his 2023 memoir Spare, Harry wrote of his estrangement with his family, including his brother. He mentioned that his relationship with Meghan was an issue for William. During one pivotal moment, things got physical with William assaulting Harry.
Airing the family’s dirty laundry didn’t help further strained Harry’s relationships with his dad and brother. But recent events has encouraged him to reach out.
Following Charles’ cancer diagnosis, Harry visited his father and things went well. A source told The Daily Beast that the meeting was “a significant step in the right direction.”
But when it comes to William and Kate, that’s a different story.
Meeting with Harry is the last thing that William or Catherine want or need right now. It’s a fantasy.
The source then went on to say the couple have reason not to meet Harry right now.
It’s not about apologies or who said what, it is about protecting his family. Kate is recovering from cancer, and they are avoiding stressful situations.
However, the insider adds, it’s important William make amends with his brother.
Everyone understands that William is absolutely furious with his brother, but ‘absolutely furious’ isn’t a deliverable plan for a king, which William will be, perhaps sooner than he imagined.
A king not speaking to his brother over an argument about a broken dog bowl, a costume party almost twenty years ago, or who said what about some lip gloss, will make William look petty and ridiculous.
It’s a sad situation all around, and both sides are coping with it in their own way. Hopefully in due time, Harry can mend his rift with his brother and sister-in-law.
