Prince William gears up to resume royal duties despite his wife Kate Middleton’s ongoing cancer battle. Following Kate’s announcement last month, insiders confirmed the Prince of Wales would be absent from public duties until his kids return to school on April 17. Subsequently, the family spent the last few weeks under the radar observing the Easter break, with Prince William stepping up to care for his wife and their three kids George, Charlotte and Louise amid their family’s health struggles.
Prince William Resumes Royal Duties Amid Kate’s Cancer Battle
After nearly four weeks of absence from public duties, Prince William will return with a special royal engagement lined up for Thursday, April 18. The outing, which marks his first public duty post-Easter would see Prince William visit Surrey and West London. Both visits aim to “highlight the work of community and environmental impact organizations in the area.” Kensington Palace shared a statement on Tuesday, confirming the Prince’s return to official duties.
Prince William would kick off the royal engagement with a visit to Sunbury-on-Thames in Surrey. There, he would explore the food distribution charity, Surplus to Supper, which makes food available for community groups by repurposing unused food. Prince William would round off with his stop in the adjacent West London to visit a youth center that directly benefits from the food distribution charity.
While his return to royal duties offers a sense of normalcy to the public and royal fans, things are far from normal within the royal family. King Charles who was diagnosed with prostate cancer earlier this year continues undergoing treatment to beat the condition, limiting his public appearances and duties he could take on.
His health situation further heightens the pressure on Prince William and his wife who reportedly face “tremendous anxiety” as the crown draws nearer. Additionally, the two continue to deal with some changes within the family as Kate continues receiving treatment for cancer. Aside from having Prince William step in to care for his wife and kids while shielding them from the media, the family has had to miss major family functions, including the annual Easter service held last month.
