With Prince William next in line to become King after his father, Charles, bestows the crown, lots of changes are expected to happen to the British monarchy. Many practices of the past will be done away with, such as those William and Harry grew up with in the Palace. But one of the major changes anticipated to come about will be the official revocation of multiple Royal Family members’ titles. And Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are on that hitlist, according to Prince William’s friends.
“It should have been done by Charles this week, but William knows he doesn’t have the strength because of his illness. William is understanding of his father’s situation. William won’t be afraid to take the next step,” a source expresses, courtesy of The Daily Beast.
Prince Andrew was forced to put out an official statement on October 17, detailing how King Charles had compelled him to give up his title as Duke of York. However, the King wasn’t the only one who pushed out this order, as Prince William allegedly pushed for the decision to be made as well. While nothing technically changes in Prince Andrew’s personal life, the public demonstration of revoking a royal’s title is big news, considering all the controversy Andrew has caused as of late.
Prince William wants to turn things up a notch and remove the royal titles of a slew of Royal Family members, undoing their protection as royals. For example, Prince Andrew is still a Prince by law, but William will reportedly see that law done away with, taking away Andrew’s title as the late Queen’s son, too. Prince Harry will be treated no differently, as he and Meghan will be stripped of their dukedoms as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
The late Queen Elizabeth had already made it clear to the Sussexes to give up their titles if they were to separate themselves from the Royal Family. On the other hand, Meghan and Harry have been more than comfortable holding themselves in regard as royalty, with Meghan even going as far as to market herself and her brand as the Duchess of Sussex. It was reported that she wanted her HRH title formally given back to her as well, and Harry was supposed to be the mediator between her and King Charles.
Unfortunately for her, we know how that conversation went if Harry did bring it up with Charles during his private visit. The King was allegedly not pleased with whatever his younger son pitched to him during the Clarence House. And with Charles now setting a precedent by stripping Andrew of his title as Duke, Prince William will more than likely be compelled to do the same to Prince Harry and his wife.
Fans Doubt Whether Prince William Will Take Action Against Harry and Meghan
Despite this rather big news with Prince William’s plans, many Sussex followers are taking these rumors with a grain of salt. “What William, thinks, will do, etc can only ever be speculation,” remarks a Redditor. “Also, the ability to remove the titles still sits with parliament regardless of who is King,” they add. “I somehow get the feeling that the Prince of Wales has more to do than plot Harry’s fate: his state duties, his patronages, Earthshot, his children, and the health of his wife,” expresses another.
In the end, no one knows what Prince William is going to do but himself after he becomes King. But things are seemingly going in the direction of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle finally getting the axe with their titles.
