The political climate in the United States has been quite turbulent over the past few decades, giving rise to various movements and organizations. Because of this, these organizations tend to clash with protesters and event organizers to essentially try to block them from completing their protest in peace. One such group, called the Proud Boys, was drowned out during the No King’s Parade in Atlanta, Georgia, by none other than a tuba playing probably the most hilarious song I could even think of.
A video depicts various members of the Proud Boys attending the No Kings protest in Atlanta, Georgia, and attempting to make a scene. Fortunately, a group of musicians happened to be nearby, and let the power of music work its magic. Before long, the air was filled with the sound of Bella Ciao, a popular song dedicated to the Italian resistance in World War 2.
The Proud Boys are a far-right neo-fascist group known for promoting violence against their political opponents. They often use violence as a tactic to advance their views on hate speech and issues related to American minorities. Fortunately, no one at the No King’s Parade had to endure any of their rhetoric, as the sound of brass instruments filled the air, providing a loud and vibrant counter to their presence. Commenters thought the same, with one person saying, “THEY PLAYED BELLA CIAO. THATS AN ANTI FASCIST SONG. NGL CREATIVE AF.”
The No Kings protests happening across the United States have attracted media attention from various political groups seeking to use the protestors as examples of unruly behavior. Fortunately, the protestors didn’t want violence, so they found a much more noticeable and reactive way to get their point across. I can only hope to see other, similar forms of protest at other events in response to how effective this particular instance was.
