I think we can all take a break from the political landscape lately and appreciate something pleasant and lighthearted. In a hilarious online post, a new Minnesota resident shared their favorite three things about living in the state. One of the reasons listed sparked a pretty hilarious tangent about a secret, long-held belief among Minnesota residents: gas stations are the place to be for great food.
In a Reddit post by user unrequited_dream in the r/Minnesota thread, they share a story about their three favorite things after living in Minnesota for over a year. This is what they listed.
3- my first favorite thing was Kwik Trip, it was actually my first stop in this state and I fell in love. Like what do you mean I can get dinner, groceries and gas all in one spot!?!? Amazing.
2- how many strangers offer a smile first. I have lived in a handful of states now, and I was typically the first one to smile at strangers.
1- THE AMOUNT OF CAT LOVERS!!! Again, lived in a handful of states and people that love cats as much as I do were kind of rare. So many cats in windows!! They held a cat tour for cats in windows?!?!! I know this is where I belong.
Now, this list is nice and cute, but what sparked conversation, besides a shared love of cats, was an amusing comment on the cuisine. The real headline was a post claiming a culinary fact that everybody else in the thread seemed to agree with. User pfohl from Kandiyohi County had this to say.
There are lots of places in greater Minnesota where the best food is at gas stations:
Kwik Trip for fried chicken.
Casey’s for pizza.
This let off a barrage of comments in which everybody started talking about the food and agreeing with the sentiment.
“W IN THE CHAT FOR KWIK TRIP! and yes, I will see you next time sir/ma’m”
“Is this the part where we pretend Kwik Trip is a Minnesota thing and not a Wisc… HEY, LOOK AT THE TIME!!”
“If you like Kwik Trip, you have to check out a good ol’ Holiday Gas Station! Love those places!”
Step aside, fancy five-star restaurants, it’s time for day-old hot dogs, stale pizza, and questionable deli sandwiches to take the reins.
