Just in time for Halloween, the “spooky scary 3D platformer” Pumpkin Jack will be available on Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam, GOG, and Epic Games Store on October 23 for $29.99. The PS4 version will follow a few weeks later. The game will also launch with a 20% discount.

As its title suggests, you will embody Jack, the Mythical Pumpkin Lord with a perpetually angry and flaming pumpkin face. Follow the will of the Devil, go on a journey to the Boredom Kingdom, a mythical realm shattered by the curse, and slay your nemesis to finally help the Evil annihilate the Good. You won’t be fighting alone though, because there are helpful companions to assist Jack on his journey, including a hooting owl to guide him along and a snarky crow, itching to assist with long-range attacks.

The developer Nicolas Meyssonnier said that he thinks the current video game market is lacking good 3D platformer titles. Armed with his adoration with classics such as Jak & Daxter and MediEvil, Meyssonnier sets out to create his own masterpiece since 2016:

I started developing Pumpkin Jack as a spare-time project in 2016 while studying at the University. I was inspired by old PlayStation platformers I played in my childhood, such as Ratchet & Clank and most importantly Jak & Daxter, and I figured that the market lacked inspiring 3D platformers. Since I was always attracted by dark and spooky atmospheres like the ones we can see in MediEvil, I decided to create my own game which further developed into an exciting full-time project.

As a gamer, I’m always searching for new ways to improve Pumpkin Jack and diversify the gameplay as much as possible. Learning from the old classics such as Jak & Daxter and new platformers such as A Hat in Time, I try to create a mix of stimulating battles, innovative puzzles and challenging platforming in eerie Halloween-themed environments.”

Judging from the trailer, the game definitely nails that cartoony horror visual. The combat doesn’t look shabby either. Do you think Pumpkin Jack will be the perfect title to enjoy for this year’s Halloween? Let me know what you think in the comments below.
