Everyone was hoping that nothing would go wrong at the No Kings protests. Unfortunately, a shooting took place in Salt Lake City, Utah. According to The Salt Lake Tribune, police have reported that one person had “a critical gunshot wound.” Police have also taken three people into custody who have been involved in the shooting. What makes this even more horrifying is that approximately 10,000 people were protesting. Thankfully, nothing more happened, and a quick-thinking local hero led to the arrest of one of the shooters.

While protesters were taking shelter at a building, a man who can be described as Utah’s hero noticed the shooter. The suspect was sitting with the protesters to pretend that he was one of them. The local hero saw a rifle in his backpack, and he quickly grabbed it and moved it away from the shooter. Immediately, he says that it’s a rifle and informs nearby police of who the shooter is. In mere seconds, the police have the guy on the ground, handcuffed. You can hear the man yelling “It’s a f**king rifle.” As the police were arresting the shooter, they made sure to ask protesters to leave the place for their safety. It was later reported that the shooter was treated because of an injury and taken into custody.

People Reacting to the Utah Hero Saving the Day

Of course, people were left in awe at how quickly the man intervened. It takes someone brave to snatch a rifle from a shooter. This is why someone wrote, “Guy said f**k you and took the bag like it was his and walked away. The balls this guy has.” Another person said, “Dude jacked his backpack and just walked it over to the cops. What a guy!”. Aside from praising the Utah hero, several people were terrified by the fact that the shooter was hiding among protesters. “Imagine you’re hiding from a shooter and they’re just there hiding with you,” one person wrote.

Since the police also handled the situation peacefully, someone made sure to praise them: “Weird saying this with all the negative cop situations you see and read about, but that cop did an excellent job.” The praise for the Utah police and the hero of the day continued. Many mentioned that the guy had saved a lot of lives at that moment. “What a f**king hero. That guy saved a lot of lives by stepping up & speaking out! Props to the officers for handling things so quickly and calmly too!” one Redditor wrote.

This situation could indeed have ended poorly if it weren’t for the guy’s quick thinking. Others might have stayed out of it, but he did the right thing by speaking up and having the courage to take the rifle away.
