Rashida Jones is mourning her father, Quincy Jones. The legendary music producer passed away earlier this month after an illustrious career with the greats of the industry. Now, his daughter is sharing a side of him that the world didn’t know.

For the first time since his passing, Rashida spoke out. She shared a heartwarming throwback photo on Instagram of her as a child snuggling with Quincy. The late producer affectionately carried baby Rashida while staring at her. “My dad was nocturnal his whole adult life. He kept ‘jazz hours’ starting in high school and never looked back,” she began. “When I was little, I would wake up in the middle of the night to search for him.” The heartbroken daughter recalled always finding her father composing music in the middle of the night.

“He would never send me back to bed. He would smile and bring me into his arms while he continued to work…there was no safer place in the world for me.”

Rashida then described her late father as a “giant. An icon. A culture shifter. A genius.” She explained that his life-changing music was only an outlet for Quincy to shower love. “He WAS love. He made everyone he ever met feel loved and seen. That’s his legacy,” the proud daughter declared. She expressed gratitude for being “fortunate” to have enjoyed Quincy’s love in close proximity. “I’ll miss his hugs and kisses and unconditional devotion and advice,” she confessed before adding, “Daddy, it is an honor to be your daughter. Your love lives forever.”

The tear-jerking post received an outpouring of support from celebrities and fans. Many extended their sympathies to the Parks and Recreation alum while recollecting the impact Quincy had on them.

Quincy’s heartbreaking death was confirmed on Monday, November 4, via his longtime publicist, Arnold Robinson. He revealed that the 28-time Grammy winner “passed away peacefully” at this home in Bel Air, “surrounded by his children, his siblings, and close family.” The statement continued:

“Tonight, with full but broken hearts, we must share the news of our father and brother Quincy Jones’ passing. And although this is an incredible loss for our family, we celebrate the great life that he lived and know there will never be another like him.”

With a career that spanned more than seven decades, Quincy worked as a music producer, collaborating with the likes of Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Will Smith, and Ray Charles. His impact can be felt in several of Jackson’s classics like Thriller, Beat It, Rock With You, Man in the Mirror, and more. Quincy was survived by Rashida and his six other children, and several grandchildren. He surely will be missed.
