Michigan Senate candidate Mike Rogers has unveiled a new ad in which he calls his Democratic opponent, Abdul El-Sayed, a threat to national security, tying him to terrorist groups. The ad was criticized on social media, as many users believed that the Michigan politician was running his campaign on fearmongering and anti-Muslim sentiment.
Rogers recently posted his ad on X. In it, he presents himself as a former Army officer and FBI agent and says that he can recognize a threat to national security when he sees one. He highlighted that El-Sayed received money from a group linked to Hamas and that his sister has ties to the Muslim Brotherhood.
He also accused El-Sayed of publicly supporting terrorist groups and said that his “radical ideology” is a threat to the United States.

Many commenters were unhappy with Rogers’ recent ad, criticizing the Republican for fearmongering. One of them wrote: “Running a pure fear campaign because you have no answers and no solutions for the problems Michiganders face.” Another said: “Racism is all you have to run on.”
Someone else asked: “Are you able to create an ad where you talk about your own policies or do I just look at what Trump’s done and that should do it?” Others highlighted Rogers’ past support for anti-privacy measures: “Hilarious coming from you. You want to destroy the constitution so you can create a mass surveillance police state where nobody has any privacy.”
Some folks even defended El-Sayed: “Abdul opposes a genocide. How radical. It’s a threat to your national security because you consider Israel as your nation. We see who the radicals are. Not Abdul. Not Muslims. Not people who oppose Israel’s crimes against humanity. Go cash your last checks, Mike; You’re done.”
Some people did approve of the ad, however. Among them were the group Democrats for Mike Rogers, which was accused of being made up of right-wing politicians from the start. Its official profile said: “Abdul’s ties to terrorism and the enemies of America are a threat to Michigan. That’s one of the many reasons we’re supporting Mike Rogers.”
It remains to be seen who will win in Michigan, but this will certainly be one of the most important and contentious Senate races in the country.
