An Oregon man was labeled racist after harassing a father who was teaching his son how to drive and asking whether he was “legal.”
The situation began as the father was teaching his son how to drive in an empty parking lot. At the beginning of the video, the man could be seen standing in front of the family’s car and filming them. “This guy is bothering us,” the father said as he began filming the man as well.
The man then began asking the father if he had a permit. The father explained that he did not need one and asked whether the man was a police officer. The man again asked to see their permit before saying he would call the police. The father encouraged him to do so, then turned his attention to comforting his son, who appeared to be scared.
As the video continued, the man walked behind the car to film its license plate. The father continued explaining that he was simply teaching his son how to drive. “I don’t believe that,” the man then said. As he continued filming them, he appeared to use what was seen as racist language, telling the father, “You aren’t legal.”
The father asked what he meant by saying he was “not legal,” but the man kept questioning him. “Are you even from America?” he asked, leaving the father shocked. The father then asked the man the same question, to which he replied that he was from America. The man once again said that he was going to call the police.
As the situation continued, the father instructed his son to switch seats. He then called the man racist, but the man denied the accusation. The father continued filming him before saying, “This is the face of racist pieces of [expletive] out here.”
The boy appeared even more scared as the confrontation continued, begging his father while getting back into the car. As the father began driving away, he filmed the man, who was now walking alongside their car, and said that he was “harassing” them.
The son grew increasingly distressed when he saw that his father was planning to get out of the car. “No, please, no,” he begged as he appeared to be close to tears. “I don’t wanna do this,” he added while asking his father to go home. Seeing his son’s distress, the father agreed and began driving away. “I’m sorry that you had to deal with this,” he said. As the video neared its end, he yelled at the man, “Thank you for showing the world you are a piece of racist [expletive].” It’s not clear what happened next.

Many agreed that his behavior was racist. “I would argue that deporting the white bald guy would make America greater,” one person wrote. Another person addressed the father, saying, “These idiots feels its ok to be vigilanties. Thxs for cslling him out. Your son was understandsbly frightened.”

This wannabe ICE agent is a prime example.”
