With the rise of racism directed toward Hispanic people, it almost become normal to see people trying to exclude them. Usually, these people won’t face consequences, but this wasn’t the case for a school bus driver in Pennsylvania. She was quickly labeled as a racist after she posted a sign inside her bus banning students from speaking Spanish. “Out of respect to English only students there will be NO speaking Spanish on this bus!” the sign read. This didn’t end well for her. The Juniata County School District ultimately decided to fire her just because of this sign. They deemed it as racially insensitive.
In an interview, the Pennsylvania driver was seen crying as she claimed that she is now on Medicare, Medicaid, and also receives SNAP benefits. She also said that what happened has led her to take antidepressants. Rather than apologizing for what many saw as a racist sign, the driver claimed that she was trying to stop a bilingual student who she assumed was being mean to those on the bus. Speaking through tears, the driver didn’t admit she regretted the sign when asked by the interviewer. She believed that she should have worded it differently. It is too late now.
People Reacting to the Pennsylvania Driver’s Sign
The Pennsylvania driver’s tears didn’t change people’s minds about what she did. Many were convinced that she was racist and that she did mean to word the sign this way. “I am local to this area and find this absolutely hilarious. This is exactly how bass ackwards older Central PA residents have been since I was born, so it is impressive seeing the bigotry finally getting punished,” one person wrote. Another pointed out how the driver didn’t apologize as they added, “She couldn’t even summon a statement along the lines of: I would never do this again and I am very sorry. For the TV interview?! Couldn’t even pretend for the camera and potential PR boost.” Someone else said, “The way she tried to play it off as a poorly worded anti-bullying sign instead of overt racial discrimination is so [expletive]typical of these accountability-phobic idiots.”
More people insisted that the Pennsylvania driver was, in fact, racist. This made some claim that MAGA would start a GoFundMe for her. “MAGATS go ahead and start her go fund me we know how much you love giving out handouts,” one person wrote. This made another person reply, “Yeah, I was thinking about doing something racist on camera so the MAGAts would start a GoFund thing for me. I am just not that good of an actor.” Someone else also believed that the driver was lying when she said that she loved all kids. “She’s a racist.. but as Trump says… Boot straps. And she says she loves the kids…. She loves all of them except for the Spanish speaking ones,” they wrote. This whole situation definitely wasn’t in her favor.
