Despite living in 2024, racism is still a terrible thing many of us face. Such is the case of a Reddit video that has surfaced showing a racist Toronto shop owner trapping two customers in her store. This person claimed the customers stole from her. However, there was no evidence of such a thing occurring. Originally posted by user Saiyan_sy on TikTok and then on the PublicFreakout subreddit, the user commented how they were racially profiled and illegally detained inside an optical store.

According to the original TikTok video by user Saiyan_sy and the one on Reddit, the racist shop owner trapped these two customers inside Bloor Optical, a store in Toronto, Canada. As you can see in the video, the victim asks the owners, “You think I took something from you?” and the shop owner only answers with, “I don’t know.” This clearly shows how the owner is just falsely accusing the customers of stealing and, even worse, keeping them inside the building against their will.

The situation goes on, and the victim asks the owner, “Is it because I’m black? Is that the problem?” To which Bloor Optical’s owner doesn’t reply. On the bench, a waiting customer goes to say that what the landlady is doing is “illegal” and even says, “This is racism; that’s what this is.” The video goes on with the victims clearly showing they didn’t steal anything. Furthermore, Bloor Optical’s owner couldn’t prove anything regarding the false accusations, proving further that this lady just wanted to cause problems for two potential buyers.

In the end, the victims managed to call the police, but according to the comments on the TikTok video, they were ignored, as, “The cops told me it’s not an emergency so they were no help now I’m seeking legal help,” said the victim.

Many people who saw this on Reddit and TikTok went on to show their support for the victims and share their opinions on this racist shop owner in Toronto.

Racism is still very much alive.

This comment is so sad to read, but it is our reality. Regardless of where we live, we’re all in danger of suffering racism without even doing anything.

Props to that guy for standing up. Pure racism and I can’t imagine they would do it to the white dude.

This one praises the other customer waiting their turn. It is great to see people standing up, especially against racism. There was no evidence of the customers stealing anything, and the other potential buyer saw this and called the owner out.

Hope this business goes to sh*t for this.

This last comment isn’t far from the truth, as it seems Bloor Optical has gone into crisis mode. If you visit the official website, there’s nothing there to see. After this, it is hard to believe this business will recover.

Right now, there’s nothing much to do but wait. The victims claim they are looking for help, which is great. People like this shop owner shouldn’t be at the front of a business. We can only hope the victims get fair treatment now that they are taking this to the legal field.
