Rebecca Budig is generating a lot of buzz after her debut as the new Taylor Hayes on The Bold and the Beautiful. Speculation about a Taylor return began after a mystery woman spied on Ridge Forrester and Brooke Logan in Monte Carlo. On the Aug. 6th episode, the soap opera revealed Taylor is indeed back.
The show ended with the beloved doctor calling her daughter Steffy Forrester. Steffy couldn’t contain her excitement over hearing her mother’s voice. Taylor had happy news to share when she exclaimed, “mama’s coming home.”
The role of Taylor was originated by Hunter Tylo in 1990, who played the character until 2019. In 2021, the producers recast with the role with former Days of Our Lives star Krista Allen. But after two years, Allen left in 2023 when the show decided there was no use for the character.
However, the show has plans for the beloved doctor since they recast the role.
Budig is no stranger to soap operas. Her previous credits include Michelle Bauer on Guiding Light, Greenlee Smythe on All My Children, and Hayden Barnes on General Hospital. Now, she’s got tough work taking on an iconic role.
The Bold and the Beautiful Fans React to Rebecca Budig’s Debut as Taylor
Recasts are common in the soap opera genre. If the original actress or actor can’t return, then producers will find someone else for the role. However, recasts can be hit or miss with an audience.
Soap fans are passionate when it comes to their favorite stars and characters. Some may not be so welcoming to a recast, while others are supportive.
For someone like Rebecca Budig taking over Hunter Tylo’s legendary role, she has her work cut out for her.
Budig’s debut is already a hot topic on a Soaps.com forum. Most of The Bold and the Beautiful fans don’t think she’s right for the role.
The casting is all wrong!!! Rebecca Budig is too young to be playing Steffy and Thomas’ mom! Are they bringing her back to creep on Ridge and Brooke?
Another commenter preferred the last recast over the new one:
RB is a great actress, total miscast as Taylor. KA was perfect as Taylor.
While most fans are critical of Budig, some are supportive of her.
I am really excited by the actress choice. She played my favorite character on All My Children.
Another viewer replied:
Me too! I loved Greenlee and as much as i miss Hunter, i know RB will kill it in this role.
Time will tell if Rebecca Budig will win over The Bold and the Beautiful fans with her performance as Taylor. While some fans don’t have high hopes, the actress could surprise everyone. Plus, it’d help if the writers have an exciting storyline for Taylor, preferably one not involving Brooke and Ridge.
