Despite the circumstances surrounding Liam Payne‘s tragic death, a close pal he spoke to in his final hours says the singer seemed stable. The One Direction member met his end on Wednesday after falling from the balcony of his hotel in Argentina. Per reports, Liam was acting erratic from being “under the effects of drugs and alcohol.” However, his friend said she had no reason to worry when she spoke to him hours before his death.
Jodie, a longtime friend of the late boyband member, revealed the content of his final texts to her. She revealed that Liam messaged to check in on her. He sent a snap of him on the bed in his hotel room with a hand pressed to his forehead. Liam and Jodie had been texting from Monday until the early hours of Wednesday, just before he died. In their final conversation, he told her he was “chilling” and enjoying Argentina. The next she would hear of the Night Changes singer was the report of his death on the news. “I’m really close to Liam, we’ve been friends for years, and he was away yesterday in Argentina, and I think he just wanted to touch base,” she told Sky News. Speaking about his mental state before his demise, Jodie said:
“He seemed fine, he looked happy, he looked healthy – no reason for any kind of concern and then obviously I heard it on the news.”
Liam Payne ‘Always Got Help,’ When He Needed It
Jodie, who “couldn’t believe” the news of her friend’s death, called his phone and texted to confirm if it was true. “It’s a wicked waste of a life; he had a future ahead of him,” she mourned. “It’s a real tragedy not only for us as friends and family but the whole world.” Addressing rumors that the English singer was troubled in his final moments, Jodie said:
“He’s got a very supportive mum and dad, his two sisters, I know he speaks very highly of Cheryl [Tweedy], he’s got a girlfriend… he’s got enough people to reach out to and he would have.”
She continued, “He’s always got help if he needed it, but as far as I’m concerned, he was in a good place with everything going on in his personal life and his career as well.” Jodie said Liam “had new things on the horizon.” It’s heartbreaking that he passed before getting to the things on his plate.
