Bike lanes exist for a reason, and they should be used by cyclists only. This, however, doesn’t mean that you get to drive there without being aware of your surroundings. Whatever the thing you are driving, you should look around you and see whether the road is safe or not. If you don’t, you can’t blame anyone but yourself if you get into an accident; a reckless California cyclist recently discovered that the hard way. He was seen cycling inside the bike lane, but he wasn’t focused on the things around him. Instead of cycling and looking ahead, he decided to look down and keep driving as if no one else existed but him.
This reckless driving could have been harmless if no one else were on the bike lane. This wasn’t the case here. A police motorcycle, along with a car and a truck, was parked on the lane. You can see a police officer and another man standing in front of the motorcycle and looking at the cyclist as he approaches them. They were probably bewildered that he wasn’t driving away instead of just going straight ahead. After all, he had a lot of time to avoid them. Instead, he slammed into the parked motorcycle and ended up flying in the air. The man next to the officer tried to avoid the flying guy as well. The only reassuring thing is that the California cyclist seemed to be able to get up after the collision. Let’s just hope that he learned to look ahead from now on.
People Reacting to the Reckless California Cyclist
Of course, a lot of people found the California cyclist to be quite dumb. This is valid because someone drives without being aware of what’s around them. What did he expect? Several people started calling him an idiot, including one person who said, “Djeez. As a Dutch person who bikes daily and amateur cyclist riding my race bike very often, I feel qualified to say I exactly know what happened here: the guy is an absolute idiot.” This made someone else joke and say, “As an certified absolute idiot, I can confirm.” It takes one idiot to recognize another. Others commented on the fact that the guy had a lot of time to avoid the police motorcycle. “Bro had 3 to 5 business days to dodge them,” one person wrote. Someone else replied and said, “He also had the weekends.”
The mocking directed at the California cyclist continued; he kind of brought it on himself. “Too busy pretending to be in the Tour de France,” one person wrote. Someone else made fun of cyclists who would respond and say that no one should be parked in the bike lane. “tHeY sHoUlD’nT bE pArKeD iN tHe CyClE lAnE!!!!!!!!!!! Just look up and go around. It’s not hard,” they wrote. Now that’s a good point. It seems like not a lot of people are fans of cyclists since another person said, “Cyclist doing what cyclists do.” The idiocy of the driver made one Redditor also imply that he was drunk. “If I was that cop I’d get some bloodtests done theres no way,” they suggested. Honestly, I just think that they were just stupid and not drunk. This, however, is definitely a moment he won’t forget, though.
