A Montana woman shares her feelings on something that left her feeling upset recently: Her Walmart won’t be carrying extended plus sizes. For women who wear plus size clothing, this can be detrimental, leaving them with fewer affordable options out and about. Now, she’s speaking out with irritation over the ordeal, and commenters have a lot to say on the matter.
Rachel (@delicatelydissected) lives in a Montana city and just went to her local Walmart, where she learned something surprising. According to her, workers told her that Walmart is no longer going to carry plus size clothing in their stores. When she asked the workers why she can never find 2X-4X clothing, they told her they only carry it online. Now, you can only find clothing up to XXL in their Montana store.
Rachel was frustrated by this because not everybody has access to being able to buy the clothing online. On top of that, many people rely on being able to try on clothes in person. Rachel asks, if this is changing, “Why do you call it the plus size section? There’s literally no plus size clothing in the plus size section.”
Rachel said that this matters because XXL isn’t technically plus size like many people assume. The clothing fits a different way and doesn’t account for curves the same way a 2X does. She explains that these are vastly different and it will affect a lot of people looking for that specific sizing. She states at the end of her video, “People need clothing that they can try on in the store. Walmart of all places doing this?!”
The video immediately sparked reactions from commenters, with many sharing varying opinions on the matter. One commenter stated, “Regardless of body size, everyone deserves clothes.” Others shared opinions that could be seen by many as offensive. One commenter suggested, “Maybe, just maybe, this is your sign.”
But others pointed out the blatant cruelty in some of the comments on Rachel’s post and how it’s unhelpful to others. One commenter shared, “The fat phobia in this comment section is crazy… Clothes should be affordable and inclusive to everyone, especially since it’s a chain store.” Another commenter added, “I bet these people being rude in the comments wouldn’t be saying anything if this video had a man in it instead of a woman.” Commenters continue to share their reactions on Rachel’s video as it gains popularity on such an important issue.
