BlizzCon 2019 fast approaches this weekend. Rumors, leaks, and news to abound to keep everyone busy during the in the meantime. Overwatch 2 is will apparently be announced during BlizzCon, according to a document attained by ESPN. This news is both surprising and not at the same time. In June, Kotaku reported that the second installment was being worked on. Reportedly, the StarCraft first-person shooter game was canceled to allocate resources to the development of Overwatch 2.
Overwatch 2 Brings PvE & Story Mode
Overwatch 2 is a title that the gaming community isn’t exactly violently shouting for like they do other games. It’s arguably not even the most sought after or requested Blizzard title compared to others, such as Diablo 4. That’s because of the continuous updates Blizzard has made to the original Overwatch, including new heroes and events. However, as reported by ESPN, the game will supposedly also feature a PvE story mode (with up to 4-players). This is a feature Overwatch fans have been requesting for years.
New Multiplayer Mode & At Least One New Hero
For those multiplayer gamers, don’t worry about being left behind. New multiplayer features are still coming. ESPN reports a new mode will be unveiled called “Push”. All of the new features and the game itself won’t be just for show. BlizzCon attendees will be able to have a hands-on play with the PvE story and Push mode. There reportedly is also an announcement for a new hero coming at BlizzCon as well.
Typically, Blizzard keeps their games long-running with numerous updates and added features over the course of years. Four years is a relatively short life cycle before announcing a sequel. However, nowhere in ESPN’s article does it say that this will be a true sequel. Overwatch 2 could simply be a massive update or high-cost DLC that acts as a sequel when installed. There is little doubt the visuals won’t be changing much and unlikely they’ll get rid of most of the heroes fans have grown to love over the years. Looks like we’ll have to wait for the official announcement this weekend for all the details.
BlizzCon 2019 runs Friday, November 1st to Saturday, November 2nd at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, CA.
