A post by Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene on X has drawn strong online reactions after she claimed that President Trump agreed to provide $300 billion to Iran for reconstruction costs following U.S. strikes on the country.
In the post, Greene expressed outrage, stating that Americans are being “screwed again” and calling the situation an embarrassment. The claims in the post have not been independently verified in the attached video clip, prompting numerous replies pushing back on the details of any potential funding.
In the attached video clip, Marjorie Taylor Greene (Georgia) said she was reading about a proposed U.S.-Iran deal expected to be signed later in the week. According to what she read, the agreement includes $300 billion for construction and investment in Iran. She stated, ‘I assume this would come from American taxpayers’ and called it “a bunch of *expletive*.”
Greene continued that these actions followed a war Americans did not support and had voted against in 2024. She said Trump bombed Iran on behalf of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, despite former Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard telling Congress that Iran was nowhere close to having a nuclear weapon. She added that the conflict has cost Americans approximately $2 billion a day, depleted needed weapons and ammunition, and driven gasoline prices over $4.50 a gallon and diesel close to $6 a gallon in many places.
Backlash Erupts Over Georgia Rep. Greene’s Iran Claims
Some users pushed back strongly on the claim, with one writing, “Trump is NOT giving Iran 300 billion! You are a liar! The Gulf States have offered this money, and they won’t get it right now!”
Another commented, “Are you really that *expletive*??? We are not giving them any money. Arab nations are going to assist them, not us.”
Others expressed frustration with Greene herself, such as “You are the only embarrassment” and “I see you are hooked directly into the Liberal talking points now, completing your treason.”
A few replies took different angles, including one stating, “Don’t worry, Marjorie… The Trump regime will NEVER pay Iran a dime, because they are the most corrupt Administration in history,” while another said, “They deserve it. This would be a lesson to all future politicians not to start new wars for Israel.”
The clip has since fueled broader online discussion about U.S. foreign policy decisions in the Middle East and accusations of spreading unverified or misleading claims around potential reconstruction funding. It adds another flashpoint to the ongoing debate over America’s role in the region.
