One of the few game series that makes you say, “Just one more match,” just to realize you’ve missed your work, a birthday, and your doctor’s appointment while playing is Civilization. You can try and prove me wrong, but just play the sixth installment for a while, and you’ll see how fast you’ll be losing friendships. Yes. That’s how addictive this franchise is. Thankfully, we’ll be able to put Civilization VI behind us in a while. During Gamescom 2024, Firaxis unveiled the release date for Civilization VII, which, believe it or not, is closer than we thought.

Sid Meier’s Civilization VII - Gameplay Reveal Trailer

During Gamescom 2024’s opening show, we finally learned that the release date for Civilization VII is February 11, 2025. Yes, that’s still a few months away, but time flies as if you were playing a normal Civilization match, right? That’s what I tell myself to make the wait bearable.

For the unaware, Civilization has been one of the best, if not probably the best 4X strategy series ever. Most installments have lasted years with amazing expansions and DLC to keep players hooked. Beyond that, you only need to look at the game’s Steam Workshop to see how many mods players have created. If you thought you had seen everything, think again. Mods will increase your playtime considerably.

Since this strategy game is still a few months away, we imagine Firaxis will reveal juicy gameplay details as we approach the final stages. In the meantime, you could try the sixth installment just to see what this series is about. You might lose yourself in it due to it being highly addictive, but it’s worth trying. And if you’d rather wait, you can head to your favorite platform to pre-order the game. Also, those with the Founders Edition will get advanced access to the game, meaning they can play it five days before its release.
