Bravo fans haven’t been too pleased with the latest seasons of the Real Housewives of New York. In case you need a reminder, the show first aired in 2008 and ran for 13 seasons before going on hiatus in 2021. Following that, the show was rebooted with a more diverse cast, including Brynn Whitfield and Ubah Hassan. However, watchers aren’t loving the revived show. According to them, everything is too performative, and the drama feels ultra fake. But it doesn’t stop there. Now, people are slamming Brynn for her recent comments about Ubah during an earlier episode. While arguing, the reality star told Ubah, who was born in Somalia, to “use her words.” Later, Brynn said to the model that she was coming off as the “angry Black woman” stereotype. This, of course, unsettled fans, and they wasted no time letting Brynn know.
Fans Want Brynn Whitfield off of the New RHONY Series
After the clip of Brynn’s comments about Ubah aired on television, watchers took to social media to share their thoughts about her statement. One user shared that they were bothered by the 38-year-olds choice of words because she’s a “white-passing woman.”
Another user shared strong feelings, too, saying Brynn is “insane.”
“I said it last week, but telling someone with a language barrier to ‘use their words’ is gross & xenophobic. Brynn’s true colors? Muddled,” they wrote.
A third fan attempted to correct Brynn by letting her know that anger is a common emotion.
“How dare Brynn say that Ubah is becoming [a] ‘stereotypical’ angry [Black] woman,” they wrote online. “Anger is a NORMAL emotion. Stop the racial tropes.”
Brynn hasn’t addressed her statement about Ubah yet, and it’s unclear if she will before the reunion special. But that doesn’t mean she isn’t aware of the backlash. Her last Instagram post was on October 10, 2024. Although she could be taking a break, that doesn’t seem likely, considering the new season began airing less than a month ago. It looks like fans will have to wait for her next Watch What Happens Live appearance to hear what she has to say for herself.
New episodes of RHONY continue on Tuesdays at 9 PM EST on Bravo and are available to stream the next day on Peacock.
