The world is mourning the loss of Richard Simmons. The legendary fitness figure, known for his eccentric and magnetic personality, has died at the age of 76, TMZ reports. Just one day after the TV personality’s birthday, he was found unresponsive in his home.

Sources tell the outlet that Simmons took a fall on his birthday, which may have contributed to his death. The Los Angeles Police Department were called to the home by Simmons’ housekeeper, who found him Saturday morning. An investigation is ongoing, but no foul play is suspected at this time.

Simmons Had Recently Been Active on Social Media

Richard Simmons is remembered for his fitness empire, which he was very active in promoting throughout the ’80s and ’90s.

Fans loved the energy that the whimsical personality and positive energy brought to the fitness space. He released over 50 fitness videos, such as “Sweatin’ to the Oldies,” “Pump and Sweat,” and more.

Through those videos, Simmons captivated an audience. Not only did he provide practical advice and support, but he also seemed genuine, whether on TV or in person.

He also owned SLIMMONS, a gym that brought his vision to life. Presenting workouts that were fun and attainable for those who weren’t insanely fit, it married workouts with salad bars to share Simmons’ vision of health.

Just hours before his death, he shared a thank you to his fans for the birthday wishes.
