Rihanna is taking a political stand just a day before the 2024 Presidential elections. The singer, who rarely dabbles in politics, revealed who she would have voted for if she was eligible. Rihanna didn’t mention any names. However, her message was well-received.
On Monday, the You Da One songstress shared a playful video to encourage her fans to participate and vote. She was seen wearing a white tank top and staring out the window of a moving vehicle with the wind in her hair. Riri accessorized with a pair of sunglasses and a stack of gold necklaces. Her brunette hair was styled into a wavy bob, and her face was free of makeup. The Fenty Skin founder kept using her loose tresses to cover her face as though hiding. “POV: me trying to sneak into the polls with my son’s passport. #votecauseicant,” she wrote across the clip. In the accompanying caption, Rihanna expatiated, writing:
“When protecting pussies and firing pussies can happen all in one vote #votecauseicant #TanSuitSeason.”
Rihanna can’t vote because she isn’t an American citizen. Although the Barbados native didn’t mention any candidate’s name, her caption speaks to her support of Kamala Harris and Tim Walz of the Democratic Party. Protecting women’s reproductive rights has been a major focus point for the Vice President’s campaign.
Rihanna Has Never Been A Fan Of Donald Trump
Rihanna’s subtle endorsement comes as no surprise as the Billionaire has been supportive of the Democratic party in the past. When Joe Biden won the 2020 elections, Rihanna celebrated with a photo of her holding two trash bags in each hand while wearing an “End Racism” t-shirt. Also, during the 2016 elections, in which Donald Trump emerged winner, she endorsed his opponent, Hilary Clinton, with a photo of her in a t-shirt that read, “I’m with her.”
The singer has also been vocal about her dislike of Trump. In 2018, during one of the convicted president’s rallies, her hit track Don’t Stop the Music was played. An unimpressed Rihanna responded to the gesture with a scathing message on social media. “Me nor my people would ever be at or around one of those tragic rallies, so thanks for the heads up,” she wrote at the time, per Revolt.
Rihanna’s displeasure towards the former president isn’t one-sided. Trump has also never shied away from publicly attacking the singer any chance he gets. Such was the case when he slammed her 2023 Super Bowl Halftime performance. He gave a harsh review on his social media website, Truth Social, calling it an “epic fail” and “the single worst Halftime Show in Super Bowl history.”
