Rihanna didn’t know about her second pregnancy when she agreed to her Super Bowl performance. Rihanna’s Super Bowl performance saw her debut her baby bump, announcing she was pregnant with her second child. Find out what happened below.
Rihanna Didn’t Know About Second Pregnancy Before Super Bowl Agreement
Weeks before Rihanna’s Super Bowl gig, she granted an interview with British Vogue and discussed her plans for 2023.
The singer opened up about her decision to accept the NFL’s invitation even though she was just four months postpartum. She said that becoming a mom helped her realize that she could do anything.
However, Rihanna didn’t know about pregnancy before agreeing to headline the 2023 halftime show. However, the singer kept it a secret and revealed her baby bump during the February 12 performance.
“What the heck [was] I thinking?” she wondered during the interview. “But you’re geeked on a challenge like that because you know what your body just did. You feel this sense of ‘Nothing is impossible.”.
The Fenty Beauty founder revealed that when the NFL announced her gig last year, it felt “almost like an out-of-body experience.” Before the event, Rihanna had not performed live in seven years. “Seven years! From zero to Super Bowl? That’s mental!” the mom of one exclaimed.
The Diamonds singer said she hoped to “have fun” onstage. However, she clarified that she was performing because of her fans and all who supported and missed her music.
Rihanna Performed In Solidarity With The Urban Community
Rihanna turned down the opportunity to perform at the 2019 Super Bowl halftime show in solidarity with Colin Kaepernick. However, she ended her holdout in 2022 when she accepted the performance invitation.
Speaking about that to Vogue, she said, “There’s still a lot of mending to be done in my eyes. But it’s powerful to break those doors and have representation at such a high, high level and consistent level.”
The Umbrella singer also pointed out that her Super Bowl performance would be the second in a row that “represented the Urban community globally.”
Rihanna’s Super Bowl performance follows Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, and Eminem’s 2022 gig. The businesswoman explained that becoming a mom to a Black son pushed her to make a difference.
Rihanna shared that “raising a young Black man” is a scary responsibility, and she is more conscious of the world he will live in.
It’s funny that Rihanna didn’t know about her second pregnancy when she took on the challenge of performing live. Thankfully, Rihanna’s pregnancy didn’t hinder her from giving a powerful performance.
