Ring Fit Adventure allows the Nintendo Switch to follow in the footsteps of the Wii and the Wii U.

The question is whether or not Nintendo is going to want to follow in those footsteps. Officially announced on Thursday morning, Ring Fit Adventure is an adventure game featuring attack moves synced to its accompanying device.

The game comes along with the Ring-Con as well as a leg strap. Both devices are hooked up to Switch controllers and read your motion, broadcasting them to the game.

Despite a rather hokey video used to unveil it, there are some features the general public appears to like. One aspect of Ring Fit Adventure people aren’t pleased about is the asking price.

While it wasn’t revealed in the video, an accompanying press release says the game will cost $80. There were more than a few people who raised the alarm about the price.

There is a precedent for the cost. Not only is this is a new title, but it does come with two pieces of equipment.

The Ring-Con especially seems to be a pretty interesting device. It’s aimed at measuring even the smallest movement in order to beam it to the character in the game.

Running, jumping, firing and swinging are all done using it and a joy-con placed in the leg strap. Even with those additions, $80 has some recoiling.

They have a point. Even if you consider the equipment costs $30 on its own, Ring Fit Adventure doesn’t appear to be a $50 title. It doesn’t appear to be a $40 title at first glance.

Nintendo Switch has had a heck of a September. Lots of new games have been announced for later this fall. This one has some cache, especially for that small group of gamers who used the Wii U and Wii to get fit. It will be interesting to see the demand when it launches in October.

Ring Fit Adventure lands on the Nintendo Switch on October 18.
