Ema Horvath, star of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, has officially been announced as the latest addition to the Lionsgate remake of The Strangers. Horvath will join Madelaine Petsch, Froy Gutierrez, and Gabriel Basso in the remake of the 2008 film, which was written and directed by Bryan Bertino.
First released in 2008, The Strangers is a psychological horror film starring Liv Tyler (The Lord of the Rings) and Scott Speedman (Underworld) as Kristen McKey and James Hoyt, a couple that arrives late one night at James’ friends’ house, intending to stay the night after a friend’s wedding. With tensions and emotions between the couple running high, the situation is made worse as Kristen and James slowly discover that three strangers are watching them in doll masks. After the couple is separated and their phone lines are cut, the intruders force their way into the house, trapping Kristen and James in their bedroom before they’re violently attacked and left for dead. Glenn Howerton (A.P. Bio) and Gemma Ward (The Great Gatsby) also star.
What We Know about Ema Horvath in ‘The Strangers’ Remake
The Lionsgate remake of The Strangers, which entered production in September 2022, will follow Madelaine Petsch as a yet-unnamed character who embarks on a cross-country road trip to meet up with her boyfriend, played by Froy Gutierrez and begin a new life in the Pacific Northwest. According to Deadline, the couple’s car breaks down along the way, forcing them to spend the night at an Airbnb in Oregon, where they’re terrorized by three masked strangers “from dusk till dawn.” Deadline also reports that Lionsgate has plans to expand the story in “new and unexpected ways” with a pair of sequels.
Actress Ema Horvath is currently best known for her role as Lady Eärien in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power on Amazon Prime Video. Some of Horvath’s other roles include Liberty Wells in What Lies Below (2020) and Jenny in Don’t Look Deeper (2020). Her exact role in the remake of The Strangers has not been revealed yet, but may be announced as the film continues production.
Renny Harlin (Cliffhanger) will direct the remake, written by Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freedland (Due Date), for distribution by Lionsgate. Andrei Boncea, Dorothy Canton, and Roy Lee will serve as executive producers for the film alongside co-producers Rafaella Biscayn, Johanna Harlin, Juan Garcia Peredo, Alberto Burgueno. and the Slovakia-based Frame Film SK.
