An announcement trailer has been released for Rise of the Tomb Raider. While there isn’t any gameplay shown, the 1:00+ video gives us some clues as to the game’s setting. Take a look at the video below and see for yourself. The subtitles are in French but the voiceover is in English, narrated by returning actress Camilla Luddington as Lara Croft.
We already knew from concept art and screenshots that the game would be set in a snowy mountain region, but if the trailer is any indication of what the game will be like, the stakes and dangers are certainly going to be higher and greater than the 2013 reboot, not to mention colder.
As an Xbox One exclusive, possibly timed, one would assume that the first gameplay reveal will take place during Microsoft’s E3 press conference, which will be on June 15 at 9:30am PT/12:30pm ET.
What kind of gameplay and news will we see at E3? As of now it’s anyone’s guess. One question of interest is whether or not they’ll be including a multiplayer component for the game like it’s predecessor. While the 2013 Tomb Raider had a fantastic single player experience, the multiplayer was less than stellar, often feeling more like a chore to acquire achievements and trophies. Hopefully this time they’ll either put in a solid effort to make it enjoyable and engaging, or they’ll remove it entirely.
Rise of the Tomb Raider is the sequel to 2013’s Tomb Raider, which scored an overall 86 on metacritic. After the success of the game and the release of the Xbox One and PS4, a Definitive Edition was released with all DLC included and updated graphics. With the incredible graphics of the Definitive Edition, it will be exciting to see what Rise of the Tomb Raider will look like.
Stay tuned for more information as E3 approaches.
