A few months ago, Hopoo Games officially released Risk of Rain 2 after over a year of early access development. With many different additions and updates reaching the game during this early access period, it’s clear that the team anticipates a healthy length of support. After the successful launch, the Hopoo Games team has grown 100% larger in team size! Despite the number of staff only increasing from 3 to 6 members, this change is significant and is good news for the team to spread their workloads. Joining the team are Javid “Snonepe”, Nick Bizzozero, and Ben Schofield. The new members of the team will contribute to the modeling and coding of Risk of Rain 2 which should add to the quality of the upcoming additions. Due to this, Hoppo has published another dev blog on their Steam page explaining their plans for expanding the team to make an even bigger game with more additions coming sooner than most might expect.
Following the new additions to the team is the 2021 roadmap as pictured above. First up is the second Anniversary update commemorating the initial release of the game to Steam early access. Hopoo seems to be committed to delivering an update that polishes some systems and introduces quality of life changes. Even going so far as to include their plans to upgrade the game engine for even more mod capabilities. They also teased the upcoming boss to be the unused Grandparent that is in the game’s files but has no real systems attached. Also discussed for this round of updates, finally, the blogpost ends with a bit of news on their plans to add paid DLC to Risk of Rain 2. Being much larger in size than a normal update, the new addition would span almost 3 content updates in one paid package. It’ll add an entirely new game mode with more items, stages, and enemies than before. The update is an ambitious addition that is planned to launch in a year’s time.
