Strange prism skins are unique outfits for your favorite characters that you can unlock during your playthrough. Similar to artifacts, you can find them at different stages if you complete certain tasks or find secret locations. Keep reading to learn how to unlock every secret strange prism skin in Risk of Rain Returns.
How to Get All Secret Strange Prism in Risk of Rain Returns

Before we start telling you how to get all the strange prism secrets, you should prepare for the game by choosing the right settings. In fact, all you need to do is uncheck the New Stages option in the settings. The thing is that all the skins we are going to tell you about are in the classic stages, so you save time by disabling access to the new ones.
Bandit – Tutorial Stage
The first thing we’ll start with is the Bandit skin, and it’s located on the Tutorial Stage. So, all you need to do is start the tutorial and find the secret passage, which is located at the very beginning of the map. Go to the left side of the level, where you will see the green vine on the far left. Use it to climb down and just keep going. Don’t jump, go through the secret passage underground as shown in the picture.
At the end of the path, you will find a prismatic shard and unlock the skin.
Commando – Desolate Forest
The next skin is on Stage 1 in Risk of Rain Returns, namely Desolate Forest. There can be several variations of the level, but this is the one you need. All you need to do is go to the left side of the level and use the vine, which will lead you through a secret passage. Use the entrance shown in the picture above and head down. You’ll have to go all the way down, even though there’s another room on the way.
Once you pass this way, you will find the shard and unlock the skin.
Artificer – Dried Lake
The skin for Artificer can be found in Dried Lake, another stage 1 location. Compared to the previous ones, everything will be much more complicated. Foremost, you will need to go to the upper-left corner of the map, which is shown above. After that, step to the left to make your character go off-screen, and then to the right to start falling down.
Now, when you are at the bottom, you will need to move to the right. On the way, you have to be mobile and find secret passages. Some of them will require you to climb down, others will require you to jump up to get onto the platform. Once you reach the end of the path, you’ll find another shard that unlocks the skin.
Loader – Sky Meadow
The next shard is located in Sky Meadow, also known as Field of Sprites, stage 2 in Risk of Rain Returns. As in the previous cases, you need to find a secret passage, in this case on the left side of the map. Pay attention to the picture above, which shows the entrance to the secret passage.
Once you enter it and go down, you will have to deal with platforming. Just move and jump on the platforms to reach the left side of the area. The next step is to get to the room shown in the picture above. This can be problematic if your character has low mobility. The best solution is to choose the Loader and also have the Photon Jetpack with you to move in the air. Fly through the path shown in the image above to enter the room and unlock another skin.
Drifter – Ancient Valley
To get the Drifter skin, reach Ancient Valley, stage 3 in Risk of Rain Returns. Here, follow the bridge to the left until you reach the wall and then the platforms with the bull-like creatures. Use one of the platforms shown in the image above to jump to the right and get to the stone arch. As in the previous case, this requires good mobility, so use the recommendations mentioned earlier.
Once on the arch, the last thing to do is to jump to the next arch on the right. Here, you will find a snowman, and as soon as you approach him, a shard will appear. Pick up the shard to unlock the skin.
Acrid – Boar Beach
The next skin is located in the same Ancient Valley, but at a secret location, Boar Beach. To get there, move to the upper left part of the map and find the fence, as shown in the picture above. Once there, hold the Up key and you will be taken to Boar Beach.
Now, move to the left side of the screen and use the vine to climb down (as in the screenshot above). Now, you’ll have a rather challenging parkour across the platforms. Choose a character with good mobility, as well as items that will help you with this. Moving further to the right, you will find a shard at the end of the map.
Huntress – Magma Barracks
The skin for Huntress is located in Magma Barracks, stage 4. The entrance to the secret passage is located in the lower right part of the map, to the left of the lava lake.
Use the first secret passage shown in the picture above to enter, and then the second to get into the secret tunnel. Move to the right along the tunnel and at the end, you will find a shard that will unlock the skin.
Acrid – Final Stage
You can find another skin for Acrid in the Final Stage. First, you’ll need to get a keycard to open the door to the cabin. Once you do that, head to the location shown in the picture above. Enter the tunnel on the right side and then move to the left. At the end of this small path, you will find a shard.
Mercenary – Final Stage
The next skin can also be obtained at the final stage. It is located not far from the previous one. Just move to the lower right part of the map until you find a cliff. Once you’ve done that, climb down to enter a cave with dancing NPCs. Above the leftmost one’s head, there will be a secret passage in the wall, head there.
After going through the passage, move on to the leftmost part of the area. This is where you will find the shard.
Chef Secret Skin – Cook Acrid
The last skin in Risk of Rain Returns is not unlocked with a shard. Instead, you’ll need to kill the Acrid boss, which can be found in Sunken Tombs, Stage 3. To unlock the skin, you will definitely need to play as a Chef. From there, just fight the boss, but use the Cook ability to deal the final hit. If you do everything right, the secret skin will be unlocked.
