If you’re tired of ranged characters in Risk of Rain Returns, the Loader is a fantastic melee survivor who isn’t afraid to get into enemies’ faces. With several skills that let them push foes away and others that defeat them in seconds, this is one of the first characters you should aim to unlock. It’s easier said than done, though. Since this survivor requires you to gather many items before you can get it, you’ll need to do an almost perfect run and scour every nook and cranny of all maps.
Risk of Rain Returns: Loader Guide
To unlock the Loader in Risk of Rain Returns, you must collect 30 unique items in a single run. This means you have to unlock almost every chest you see. The catch is that duplicate items do not count, meaning you’ll need to prioritize new items constantly. Here are some tips to get as many items as possible in one run:
- Play on the easiest difficulty (this is only to allow you to reach later levels more easily).
- Save your money to the last and loop back in the map after beating the boss. You’ll be able to open more chests.
- Watch for Imp Statues. Imps are easy to kill and always give you a reward.
The Loader has some great skills to let it escape difficult situations and smash enemies from a distance. Here are some of the ones you’ll get when you unlock this survivor:
- Knuckleboom: Batter nearby enemies for 120% damage. Every third hit deals 240% damage and knocks up enemies.
- Debris Shield: Become invincible for 2 seconds and increase your movement speed.
- Hydraulic Gauntlet: Fire your gauntlet and pull yourself forward, stunning and damaging enemies.
- M440 Conduit: Place a lightning rod. After placing two, lightning surges between them, damaging enemies.
As you can see, this survivor is all about bashing enemies, grappling around to escape, and even setting traps on the map. Overall, it is a great addition to the roster and one you should focus on getting first. So, watch out for items and grab as many as you can.
