Editing a teleprompter for a speech may not stop the celebrity from speaking their mind. Coming up to introduce the Historical Icon and Creator Tribute award at the Gotham Awards, Robert De Niro planned on speaking about Trump in his speech, but according to him, Apple and the award show edited his speech. He continued on with what he planned on saying and called out the studio of Martin Scorsese’s latest film, Killers of the Flower Moon, and the Gotham Awards for what was done.
Apple and the Gotham Awards did not comment to confirm if either had edited the star’s speech.
Robert De Niro’s Speech About Trump at the Gotham Awards and His Call Out at Apple and the Award Show
The Oscar-winning actor delivered his speech as intended. By the end, he informed the audience what had happened. Through The Hollywood Reporter, we have the full speech, and from a video taken by Washington Post’s Jada Yuan (seen above), we have the tail end in which he calls out Apple and the Gotham Awards.
At first, Robert De Niro talked about history and the restrictions Florida has placed on its education system during his speech at the Gotham Awards. The state has banned hundreds of books and made changes to its curriculum on what can or cannot be taught. It is a trend across red states in the U.S.
History isn’t history anymore. Truth isn’t truth, and even facts are being replaced by alternative facts and driven by conspiracy theories and ugliness,” De Niro said onstage. “In Florida, young students are taught that slaves developed skills that could be applied for their personal benefit. The entertainment industry isn’t immune to this festering disease. The Duke, John Wayne, famously said of Native Americans, ‘I don’t feel we did wrong in taking this great country away from them. There were great numbers of people who needed new land, and the Indians were selfishly trying to keep it for themselves.

He then took a stab at former President Donald Trump for the “more than 30,000” lies he had said during his term. The star went on about Trump’s “disrespect” and how he “attacks the weak.” He makes a reference to how he called Senator Elizabeth Warren “Pocahontas.”
Lying has become just another tool in the charlatan’s arsenal. The former president lied to us more than 30,000 times during his four years in office, and he’s keeping up the pace with his current campaign of retribution. With all of his lies, he can’t hide his soul. He attacks the weak, destroys the gifts of nature and shows his disrespect, for example, using ‘Pocahontas’ as a slur.
Robert De Niro at the Gotham Awards
It is not the first time Robert De Niro has called out Trump through speeches at other award shows beyond the Gotham Awards. He once yelled “f— Trump” at the 2018 Tony Awards. Like many in Hollywood, he had been vocal during the former President’s tenure in the White House.
